Hey guys Im getting my Tragus done next Wednesday I think and Im kinda nervous about it Ive watched people on Youtube getting it done and the barely flinched when getting it done will it be alright pain wise Im 13 and have a fairly good pain-threshold

    • Amy says:

im 14 and want it done, did it hurt?

      • Bonnie says:

I had both of my tragus’ pierced a few months ago. I’m not really tough nor am I super sensitive to pain, but the initial needle really wasn’t that bad. Now given, I had a fantastic professional piercer. He put the needle through the front and attached the labret to the needle, and then pulled it through. The worst of the pain was when the jewelery was pulled through the hole. It was pretty sharp, but also quick so not a biggie. Hope all goes well!

  2. Nisha says:

I had my left ear done summer 2010 and am just now getting the nerve to do the right. I found it tricky to change the jewelry…I’m using one of those earrings that the back of it is flat and you can twist off the front and twist on a different one to change the colors. That makes it easier. I may want to change to rings when I get the right done. Does anyone know if you can use a ring instead of a stud for your starter jewelry?

    • Traci says:

They stud is the smarter thing to do… Using a ring is more likely to cause infection at first….thats what my piercer told me…

    • Chelsea says:

My starter is a ring and it’s done great. It’s a lot easier because it will swell and a stud will be too tight on the cartilidge.

  3. Sasha says:

Ok so for anyone out there considering this piercing and stumbles onto this blog for concerns this is what I’ll share with you. I just had my right tragus done June 8th (less than a week ago) and I am currently not in any significant pain, even when sleeping on that ear. HOWEVER, the 5 minutes spent while having it pierced and then having the jewelry inserted was horrific! I was literally going to throw up from the immense pain. About a half hour after I was fine and cant say it’s been hurting or bugging me too much except for a little swelling on neck glands on that side which I think is normal when you incur trauma to an area. The piercing should deffinetly be done by a professional and using a needle, never a gun. I was quite vocal and constantly pulling away as he was doing the piercing. The pain felt like some very sharp object screwing a hole through my ear very slowly with tremendous pressure and popping, it probably would have been over quicker if I wasn’t jerking my head away and screaming but hey my pain tolerance isn’t as great as some others. It was deffinetly worth the few minutes of pain, I’m taking good care of it and it’s not hurting so I’d say go for it! It’s a really pretty and feminine piercing and I can’t wait to get some beautiful jewelry for it.

  4. kandie says:

i heard you can go deaf is that true?

    • Lana says:

That is not true. It is impossible for a tragus piercing to cause deafness. As long as the piercing is performed by a professional, it is kept clean and isn’t touched while it is healing, there should be no complications.

  5. anya says:

I really want to get my tragus pierced, but I have a small scar there, is that a problem?

    • Amanda says:

It shouldn’t be, I had mine done twice in the same spot because I let it close up the first time. I have a VERY low pain tolerance and it didn’t hurt at all either time when I got my tragus done… : )

  6. Shay says:

I just got mine done 2 days ago on the left side and on a scale of 1-10 in the pain factor it was probably like a 3 haha, but everyone’s pain tolerance is different. The only bad thing I have to say about it is that it sucks when your hair gets stuck in the hoop. But I totally recommend getting it if you’ve been thinking about it. I’m probably going to get it on the other side fairly soon :)

  7. Christie says:

I had mine done 2 days ago and was pretty scared because I don’t handle pain well. It was fast easy and really didn’t hurt hardly at all, just lots of pressure. I say definitely do it if you’re thinking about it!

  8. Josie says:

I’m 16 & I have my belly, & my ear lobes pierced. I’m so excited in getting mine! how much did you guys pay? I live in Florida and I have to choose between paying for my licence or paying to get both of my tragus’ pierced. I’m getting them done in the same session, I think it’ll be easier that way lol.

  9. Fábio says:

    Hey,
I get my tragus pierced in the 18th of May and today, 22 of june he is still swollen…is it normal?

  10. ella says:

i want my tragus done but my mum wont take me. im going to do it myself. but one you get the needle how do you get the stud in??

    • Amanda says:

Ella, just wait until you are old enough to go to a tattoo parlor without parental consent and have them do it. From the reading that I’ve done, it’s important to have a professional do this piercing. In Oregon it cost me like $75, including jewelry to get it done by one of the best tattoo parlors in my hometown.

  11. Anne says:

I had mine done about a month ago. Everything was fine till about a week and a half ago. I have developed a slight rash on my face right next to the tragus and a little on the ear lobe too. It’s itchy. Any ideas?? I did go back to the guy that pierced it and he took out the ring and put a stud in, I guess for lack of knowing for sure what to do. It still itches a little on and off today.

  12. Erin says:

Okay, so I’m sixteen. I wan t to get my right tragus pierced, because I have my cartilige is pierece on the other side. I have triple piercings on both my lobes and then the cartilige. I did the doubles, trike, and cartilige at home, but I understand that it’s important to go to a professional for this one. I would say my pain threshold is pretty high, considering I pierced those without problem. I guess I would just like to the price range and how bad it hurts if anyone knows.

  13. Alaina says:

Alright so I’m going to get my Tragus pearced in a week or so and I want to know how long you need to wait before you can change it? I have cross country in the fall and jewelry is not permited. Can anyone help me out?

  14. Mady says:

Im getting my tragus pierced at the end of the summer and was wondering about the pain. I got my cartilage done about a year ago and for me that barely hurt at all, so will the tragus not hurt too bad? I know the cartilage is thicker than at the top of ear, so is it really just more pressure of pushing the needle through that hurts so much? Thanks for any responses!

    • Rachel says:

I had mine pierced curved. It really didn’t hurt very much. It does help to have a friend with you to distract you. You may look silly holding someone’s hand to get your ear pierced, but it who cares? It helps. :)

  15. Rachel says:

I had my tragus pierced on Thursday July 5th. When he initially pierced it he used a ring that was too big. I went back the next day and he switched it out for a smaller ring. The piercing itself didn’t hurt at all, surprisingly (since I’m a big baby), but when he changed it out it really hurt. It has hurt on and off since then and I’ve cleaned it with sea salt water and rinsed with saline solution. I’ve moved the ring for a few seconds a couple of times. I read not to move it for 3 days after piercing. It’s a little swollen and red, but I hear that’s pretty normal. I am worried that since he took it out an put a new one in so soon after piercing that it may get infected…

  16. Nicole says:

I’m getting my tragus done on Monday and my mom wanted to make sure its safe. Also she wants to make sure I don’t get any infection from it. Any suggestions or comments about it?

  17. Izzy says:

Hey…I really want to get my tragus done…
But I’m worried about the infections people keep talking about…
I can handle the pain..no problem with that…But its the infection that might happen that really worries me…

Can anyone who has experience help me out here?

  18. Sarah says:

I’ve had my tragus pierced for about 2 weeks. the pain wasn’t bad at all. I’m also a fast healer when it came to my other tattoos and piercings, will it still be too risky to go ahead and change out my earring to a new one only 2 weeks healed?
i no longer feel any kind of pain or irritation at all. I’m just a little freaked out by all the posts ive read about changing out this earring.

  19. sadia says:

hey iam going to get my tragus pierced on the weekend i wanted to know what side does it look better on? as i dont know what side to get pierced!

  20. Bonita says:

I had my tragus done today and it didn’t hurt at all, however I discovered when getting my epidural that I have a high tolerance for pain. I was so nervous, that I was shaking lol but it you take deep breaths and relax it will go relatively fast and painless. Jerking around and moving will cause more pain, also it really depends on who your piercer is ask the customers and they will definitely direct you to the mist qualified, yet gentle piercer, also make sure the needle is extra sharp that way it will go through your cartilage smoothly. I prefer tattoo parlors because they specialize in piercing and body modification. Do your research for before and after care and go back in 3 weeks so your piercer can see your healing progress, its totally width it and it’s nit bad just mainly pressure you will love it.

  21. Sofia says:

I am 14 and i got my tragus pierced a few months ago it didnt hurt because i had a very good piercer. however getting it changed hurt cause my tragus was sore from the piercing. i really like it and i do reccomend it. But if you do get it pierced make sure you go to the drugstore and get a can of h2ocean pr saline solution and just spray it in your ear twice a day:)xoxo

  22. Curly-Sue says:

I had mine done today, and while the initial needle going through was fairly painful, the rest of the procedure I found was just uncomfortable.
I had the top bit of my ear pierced about 10 weeks ago and that was more painful, but i think it was because it was done with a gun and shouldn’t have been.
I have wanted my Tragus done for so long but have never plucked up the courage to do it because I was told it was extremely painful, but I have to say, at the moment it’s not that bad.
